DC BANA 2011 - EVENTS UPDATE

Hello everyone!

We haven't had a new post out for a while so we wanted to update everyone on the exciting events that the Youth Committee has planned for BANA 2011, and we’d like your involvement! Please encourage members in your region to participate! The following are events/programs we have in mind:

Bunts Got Talent Competition: Talent undu/ unta? Time to showcase it! The Bunts Got Talent Competition is a talent search held in each region with individual acts (up to 3) competing for exciting prizes during our main event. We aim to highlight our most talented members and encourage regions to work together (regional reps, youth reps) to provide a diversity of performances and some competitive fun at this year’s BANA! All types of acts are welcome with participants running ages 10 to 30. We’re hoping to partner with regional and youth reps to find a good mix of acts across our 16 regions. We’ll need your help to drum up the best talent and ensure your region gets a chance to shine! Please contact banayouth@gmail.com for more information on how to get involved.

Community service: In addition to singing and dancing, we’d like to embrace another aspect of our Bunt culture – service. Please encourage members in your region to get involved in community service, or continue any service projects in which they are already involved. Groups of people or individuals will give a 5 minute PowerPoint presentation or a video presentation based on their experiences. We plan to have the presentations in between the evening entertainment programs. The general outline of the presentation includes: 1. Introduction 2. What they did (personal accounts, photos, videos); 3. What they learned from the experience; 4. How others can get involved in the particular organization and in community service in general. Please spread the word via e-mail, Facebook, blogs, word-of-mouth, etc! We especially encourage the youth to get involved as this will help inculcate passion for community service early on in their life that will help shape their future including while applying to colleges. Please e-mail banayouth@gmail.com with a list of people from your region interested in presenting their community service experience by March. We encourage participants to upload photos and write about their experience right here on our blog (http://buntusa.blogspot.com/).

Networking panel: If there’s one thing DC is good at, it’s networking. We have a lot of talented people within our community – let’s make use of them! As of now, there is nothing available through BANA for youth with regard to academic and career advice. The purpose of this panel is to provide information to recent college grads, young professionals, people who want to make a career switch, etc. The DC BANA Youth Committee will organize a panel of speakers from different domains. Each speaker will get to share about themselves and their work with Q&A to follow.

Buddy program: The purpose of this initiative is to allow youth from different regions to mingle and get to know each other better. We will be providing the following information in the registration packet (Age, gender, current location, and hobbies). Please ask members to fill it out for their children if their kids are between the ages of 10 and 18, or for themselves if they are between the ages of 19 and 30.

The Purpose of this Blog

Hello, all!

The DC BANA Youth Committee decided to start a new blog for the entire Bunt community.

The purpose of the blog is to connect our widespread community members throughout the two years separating every convention. We want to be updated on all the news and goings-on from every region, and this blog is a tool for achieving that purpose.

The blog would include resources, mostly pertaining to youth (like Career Guidance), and discussion forums on various cultural, community service and educational topics.

As our new president Mr. Satish Shetty said in the newsletter, the DC BANA is working to put together an amazing BANA convention in the capital city. The youth committee has focused on innovative plans to strengthen young people's commitment to the organization.

Some things to expect:

Regional Youth Representatives
: Every region should have a youth leader to encourage participation and membership in the area. If you are interested in representing your region, please contact us.

BANA Idol: Holding a talent search or ‘BANA Idol’. Each zone should select an individual or a group that will represent their zone. Grand finale will be the competition during convention.

Community Service:
Each Regional Youth Representative should encourage community service participation. And during the convention, each region will be given 5 to 10 mins time slot to present their work.

Mentorship Program
: A program for those youth/teenagers that seek guidance.

There are some other plans too, but we don't want to spoil the surprise.

If anybody would like to have author privileges on this website, do not hesitate to contact us. Keep us updated!
